SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3RD, 2020

Dear all,

I hope you are healthy and able to stay happy and inspired. 💙💙

Life is challenging but I’m sure we are moving towards better times.

I’ve been doing well. My family and I are healthy and continue to living our busy lives.
I’m enjoying this autumn vibe, staying in and cocooning and I’m very well aware of the amazing lucky position I’m in; I’m safe, surrounded by friends and family and able to earn my living through playing and teaching.

In this period I’m practising a lot of standards. This will always be the backbone of my playing. I’m working on finding answers to how I can relate on a deeper level to the tradition and also be personal? I’ve been listening a lot to Charlie Parker and tried to learn more from his rhythmic approach, feel and phrasing.

I’ve been supporting a great organization called Home For All, run by Katerina Nikos and their amazing team. They cook and care for the refugees who lived in the Moria refugee camp in Greece which burned down. If you can, then please support them here, you will make a huge difference. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

RELEASE TOUR FREYA

EDN1150_Freya_Packshot-100.jpg

I just updated my calendar on this website and I’m really looking forward to my release tour this fall (October/November) with my new FREYA group feat. the trumpeter Ralph Alessi.

The great young trumpeter Ian Cleaver will sub two shows for Ralph.
Clemens van der Feen will join on bass and Tristan Renfrow on drums.

We’ll play in Germany, Groningen, Nijmegen, Tilburg, Amersfoort and other cities.
The second part of the tour will take place in February/March next year. I really hope to be able to play these shows because these shows are part of my cancelled album release tour in March 2019.

PRESS

Since the release of FREYA (Edition Records) I’ve received so much love and positive reviews! It really helped me to stay positive and inspired.

All About Jazz wrote a great feature/review about FREYA. Thank you Ian Patterson for your ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ !!

"Postma, on soprano, is in scintillating form.. There is individual and collective fire. Consistently absorbing, Freya is a welcome comeback album from Postma and a fine one at that. The more one digs, the more the music reveals."

BLOOM TRIO

With my Bloom Trio (Marc van Roon on piano and Tristan Renfrow on drums) we did a live stream concert for Tivoli Vredenburg in Utrecht. The Concertzender broadcasted the show. Here you can listen back.

ERIC INEKE NEW RELEASE

I joined Eric Ineke’s JazzXPress release tour for his new album “What Kinda Bird Is This?”, celebrating Charlie Parker’s centennial year. I went deep into Parker’s playing again. Like always I’m struck by his genius playing. It’s timeless, it’s perfect and makes me cry.

Here’s a nice article about the Eric Ineke JazzXpress album by Jazz Profiles.
A Quote: “What’s especially fun about listening to Tineke on this disc is hearing her improvise on bebop changes in a straight-ahead setting as she usually plays in a freer format and style”

Volkskrant ****
”Het mooist zijn misschien wel de drie ballads waarin Postma enkel begeleid wordt door bas en drums. Haar versie van Lover Man is echt van een betoverende schoonheid. “

RAMON VALLE- BOUNDLESS FORCES:

IMG_2441.jpg

I joined a great project of Cuban pianist Ramon Valle. I love Ramon’s positive energy and music. This is what he says about the project:

“In the most difficult time we succeed to launch my newest project, my Boundless Forces movement into the world. It is a movement because it is bigger than only the music. It is about equality, about accepting who we are, it is about celebrating that the human race has such rich and beautiful viarities. Combining this on stage and in the audience is the best example of how we can live together in peace. If you feel the same and if you want to have this extremely awesome tune as well, you can download it on Spotify.

Here’s the Boundless Forces Video feat. Typhoon and many other great musicians. The video was released on October 2nd.

We’ll play some shows at the end of this year- watch my calendar for more details.

FLORIAN ARBENZ DUO

October 7th I’ll play a duo concert with drummer Florian Arbenz in Germany. Florian recorded a beautiful duo album called “Reflections of The Eternal Line” with Greg Osby. Greg can’t fly from the States now because of the Corona Pandemic. It’s a great honor to sub for my mentor and friend.

September 18th I flew from Amsterdam to Munich, thinking I was well informed about Germany's strict Covid regulations and that I was allowed to enter the country and perform that night. As I was flying for work and because I travelled from a safe region in the Netherland it should have been fine to enter Germany and do the gig. Upon arrival I had to do a test and got the news that I was obliged to stay in #quarentine in my hotel And wait for my test results. So I couldn’t play the show, had to cancel my flight back home and stay two extra days in quarantine. The promoter tried to obtain an exemption form for me since the rules changed WHILE I was on the plane but that didn't work out. These situations make our touring life really hard. I also felt sorry for Florian Arbenz (thanks for at least the nice hang at the hotel!) who put so much into this gig and had to do a solo show (which went great btw) and want to thank the venue Stadhalle Gemering for their understanding and support.

So next week, I’ll will do a Covid test again in order to be able to play with Florian in Ulm on October 7th.

Here’s a beautiful video of Florian and Greg playing in duo:

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this update and thanks for your support. ❤️

I wish you ALL the best! I look forward to staying connected and to meeting you at one of my upcoming shows.

Please follow me via my social media for more regular updates.

Peace,

Tineke

April 30th, 2019, Netherlands

Happy International Jazz Day!!

I hope you and your loved ones are healthy and safe.

We’re all effected by the Corona crisis. My latest album FREYA was released by Edition Records on March 20, 2020. Right in the middle of the break-out. My release tour for this May got cancelled; a tour I worked very hard for.

But, so far, my situation has not been bad at all. The extra time with my family is wonderful and I feel very blessed for being safe, healthy and able to continue to practice, write music, teach online at the Codarts and the CVA conservatories and plan my concerts for a later moment.

I’m also working on improving my live streaming skills so I can start sharing some of the stuff I’ve been working on.

Together with the venues, I’m working on postponing the release tour to November 2020 and the end of Februari/March 2021.

Today on International Jazz Day I remember when I joined the All-star Global Concert in Melbourne, Australia, April 2019. PBS did a re-broadcast of the show, one week ago. Watch the full show here:

I also am thinking of doing a duo live streaming with my husband Marc Van Roon and will keep you posted.
On May 23rd, I will join the Lockdown Session organized by the wonderful Rio Sakairi of the Jazz Gallery in NYC. We will show a pre-recorded video I made of a short performance and we’ll be there to talk about music.

I’m very happy with the great critical acclaim for Freya.
Downbeat (John Murphy) wrote a nice feature about me, I was on the cover of the Dutch Jazzism, got a 4 star review in the Volkskrant and Freya received a Choc review; CD of the month in the French Jazz Magazine. You can read quotes on the PRESS page. It’s heartwarming to feel the love and support of friends, colleagues, family and followers.
